
San Diego County residents have multiple opportunities in the coming days to learn about the county’s budget and share their .
An in-person open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the county’s operations center in Kearny Mesa, located at 5520 Overland Ave.
Attendees can expect to see numbers and data about the county’s $8.6 billion budget for the coming 2025-2026 budget year, and staff will be on hand to answer questions and walk people through the budget and what services the county provides.
A similar will be held online next Wednesday, May 28, starting at 5:30 p.m. Registration for the virtual event can be found at engage.sandiegocounty.gov/budget.
Formal public hearings for next year’s budget will start at 9 a.m. on June 3 at the County istration Center in downtown San Diego. Another public hearing will be held there on June 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Supervisors will start their budget talks on June 24, a week ahead of the July 1 special election between Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre and Chula Vista Mayor John McCann to fill the vacant South County seat on the board.
A proposed county budget released earlier this month would raise public safety spending by $149 million and health spending by $65 million. It would close a projected $138 million budget gap with cuts to infrastructure projects, the county’s finance department and its land use and environment group and with a 1% cut to the workforce.
