
Two defensive-minded catchers are doing enough with their bats for the majors’ best team.
Luis Campusano is also doing what he can to stay top of mind.
The 26-year-old catcher hit his third home run in Triple-A El Paso’s 13-6 loss to visiting Las Vegas on Sunday.
Serving as the DH, Campusano drove in three runs on three hits, including a double. He is hitting .395/.490/.674 with nine RBIs in 12 games since he was optioned to the minors, leaving Elias Diaz and Martín Maldonado to serve as the catchers in San Diego.
Díaz is hitting .233/.343/.267, while Maldonado is hitting .292/.292/.417.
More importantly, the Padres lead the majors with six shutouts pitched during their 13-3 start, while the staff 2.68 ERA is the second-lowest in the majors.
Right fielder Yonathan Perlaza (1.072 OPS) went 3-for-5 with a double, and a run scored and catcher Brett Sullivan (.577 OPS) drove in two runs on two hits, including a triple
Left-hander Austin Krob (0-1, 5.59 ERA) allowed five runs in five innings in the loss.

Neighbors has struck out nine against four walks through his first 4⅓ innings with the TinCaps. RHP Eric Yost (0.00 ERA) started the game with six strikeouts over four innings. He allowed six his and an unearned run. C Addison Kopack (1.125 OPS) went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk. CF Nerwilian Cedeno (.535 OPS) went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
